Production Farming, Not Gardening
Project EATS' farm objective is food production - growing high quantities of high quality food in small spaces, manually. Its farming methods, objectives, and measures of success follow in the tradition of small family rural farms.
The reasons and primary objective for community gardens in America have been social rather than food production. Since their inception they have been used to acculturate immigrants, support military troops, quell social unrest, cover physical decay, create public space, teach nutrition, fight obesity but not as a regular source of food significant enough to feed people.
By its nature, the way we produce food shapes both the natural and social environment we live in. We believe our focus on neighborhood-based food production provides a viable and sustainable source of food we need to support the growth, function, health of our bodies.
Project EATS believes that its use of authentic farming methods, its focus on food production, its creativity, and its approach to working with individuals and communities creates natural and social environments that are viable, sustainable, and support well-being.
