Project EATS (Art. Food. Life.)
Using what we have. Creating what we need.
Since January 2009, Project EATS has partnered with public high schools, community-based organizations, colleges, city agencies, and individuals to create 7 community farm sites and 2 community markets in New York City.
Winter/Spring 2009
Project EATS' 1st site was built in the Brownsville community of Brooklyn in partnership with Teachers Preparatory Academy (Teachers Prep) and Help New Horizons (Help), a temporary family shelter.
Winter/Spring, 2010
The 2nd Project EATS site was built on the campus of Franklin K. Lane High School in East New York in partnership with Brooklyn Lab School and community-based organizations, Directions for Our Youth and Healthcorps staff on the campus.
A 3rd site was built at Cypress Hills Houses also in partnership Directions for Our Youth.
Fall/Winter 2010
A 4th Project EATS site was developed on the campus of Thomas Jefferson High School Campus in East New York. In addition to the campus, the principal partners at this site are Brooklyn Multi-Service Family Health Center and its World Academy for Total Community Health (WATCH) High School. Project EATS launched its 5th site in Manhattan at Edward R. Reynolds West Side High School in partnership with the school and Healthcorps staff at the school.
Spring 2011
On April 13th, the 6th Project EATS community was launched in the Brighton Beach community of Brooklyn at Kingsborough Community College in partnership with the College. The next day, the 7th site was launched in the Mott Haven community in the Bronx at University Heights High School in partnership with the school, Good Shepherd Services, and Healthcorps staff at the school.
The amount of growing space at each site varies from 608 square feet to 7,500 square feet.
